2 Great Days of Banff Rafting and Activities in the Canadian Rockies

JUST ADD WATER!

NOW is the time to start planning for the summer!

In springtime, summer still seems far enough away that the glorious summer weeks ahead will stretch out and go on forever. But as we all know, Labour Day, which marks the time to put away the summer toys and start searching for our winter clothes and snow skis again, comes suddenly upon us.

So get the calendar out and start your planning!

Wild Water Adventures Can Help

Spending the past weekend with over 8,000 ladies at the Calgary Women’s Show I was able to see that visitors to the mountains love to build other activities around their rafting trip with Wild Water…all that is required to plan a great trip is a little guidance from me. With all the National Parks on our doorstep, there is plenty to do and see that doesn’t require you to open your wallet. At Wild Water Adventures we find that not only do we assist our guests in choosing the right rafting trip for them, but we can also act as vacation planners for great Canadian Rockies Rafting.

First, Pick your Banff Rafting Trip

The Kicking Horse River is ideally located just on the western border of Yoho National Park, famous for its breathtaking waterfalls and glaciers. Firstly, rafters chose to join us for either one of our half day trips: our Gentle River Journey (great for first timers, nervous rafters or younger families), or our Whitewater Exciter (action packed, fun and exciting). With more time to spend, try our longer day Tradition trip (combines both the Gentle and Whitewater Exciter plus a delicious BBQ lunch) or our Maximum Horse Power trip later in the season. The good news is there is plenty of time to add some extra fun adventures and sites to your trip, many within a stone’s throw of our RiverBase Daylodge.

Now add some of the following Banff activities

Many of these are located around the quaint little town of Field, BC.

  • For those looking for a natural wonder I suggest they take the 20-minute drive up to Takkakaw Falls, Canada’s second highest waterfall. A short hike allows you to feel the spray of the falls cascading down!
  • Those with more energy can chose from a number of great longer hikes from the Falls, exploring Twin Falls and the Iceline Trail.
  • En route to the Falls don’t forget to check out the ‘Meeting of the Waters’ a visually appealing site where two different coloured rivers converge and join together.
  • A little further downstream the Natural Bridge allows visitors of all ages to gaze in awe at the power of the river as it carves natural bridges through the rock on its tumbling journey downstream. Photos opportunities are plentiful.
  • After Natural Bridge, head out to Emerald Lake, one of nature’s truly hidden gems. A trail circumnavigates the Lake and takes about an hour or, for those looking for a little more action, rent a canoe and explore its shores.
  • You can balance the time with a little bit of history too. Head up the Big Hill and view the Spiral Tunnels, an engineering feat that has the trains crossing their front carriages with their back ones as they weave down the mountain.
  • Finally, head into the Burgess Shale exhibition in the Field Information Centre and discover how the area was once inhabited by three eyed creatures…now that’s appealing of kids of all ages!

It’s easy to fill a day or two in our area by building in some great site sightseeing spots around a fun trip down the Kicking Horse River .. it just needs you to choose a time to do it. Give us call and we can help you. And don’t forget…the end of the summer comes WAY more quickly than we’d like it to!
