Planning Your Kicking Horse River Rafting Trip

Kicking Horse River rafting adventures are just that … adventures! Whether mild-mannered,  action-packed, or something in between, Wild Water Adventures has it all. Here are some helpful tidbits for planning your next rafting adventure with us.

Which Trip Is For You?

The bouncy and splashy Class 2 and 3 waves of our Gentle rafting trip are popular with young families, fun-seeking seniors and first-time rafters. Those curious, but slightly hesitant, about the whole white-water thing find this trip perfect. Rafters need only be at least 8 years old; there is no maximum age!

Continuous and cuts-right-to-the-action defines our Whitewater Exciter trip. With non-stop Class 2 to Class 4+ waves and rapids, the Whitewater Exciter offers THE best whitewater in the Canadian Rockies. Families with older children, tourist groups, friend groups, and stags & stagettes all have a blast on this trip.

The Tradition, our longest trip, combines the best of everything: picturesque float sections, splashy wave trains, and BIG rapids.  Everything from Class 1 to Class 4+ is found on this exceptional Kicking Horse white water rafting trip. Ideal for energetic and adventurous families and groups who want to spent the most amount of time possible on the river. A delicious BBQ lunch is served back at the RiverBase afterward.

Later in the season, our double-run Maximum Horsepower trip offers highly adventurous, adrenaline junkies the most whitewater action on the river. The first run is in 16-foot rafts, with the guide at the oars. The second run is in smaller, 14-foot rafts, with every rafter paddling. This is a 100% participation trip, rafting 28 kilometers of pure whitewater exhilaration.

Who Can Raft?

What To Expect?

Because of the melting snow and ice that feeds the Kicking Horse, the temperature of the river is quite refreshing!  To stay comfy and cozy on the rafts, we provide guests with wetsuits, wetsuit booties, polar fleece sweater(s), spray jackets, life jackets, helmets, and wetsuit gloves.  The only personal items to bring along are a bathing suit/swimming trunks (to wear under the wetsuit), and a towel for changing afterwards.

Weather in the Rocky Mountains is highly variable. One moment it can be sunny and hot; the next cloudy and cool. It is possible to experience four seasons in one day! Whatever Mother Nature has in store, we are prepared for Kicking Horse river rafting, rain or shine.

Guests are in highly capable hands when it comes to rafting with Wild Water Adventures. All our guides are certified rafting professionals with experience on rivers both local and across the globe. In addition to passing both company and industry examinations, further certification in Wilderness First Aid and Swift Water Rescue are mandatory.

Before any guest boards a raft, a comprehensive safety briefing is conducted at river’s edge. Guides talk about river characteristics, and what to do in case of an unexpected swim. Our aim is to have every guest smiling at the end of the trip. Prioritizing safety is the best way to ensure smiling faces!

Rocky Mountain Scenery:

Kicking Horse Rafting TripsThe Rocky Mountain region, in my personal opinion, is the most beautiful place on Earth. Towering peaks, massive glaciers, wildflower bedecked alpine meadows, and, of course, turquoise-hued rivers, running wild and free through the valleys, make this one heck of a special place.

A unique perspective is found from aboard a raft, looking up at Mother Nature’s marvels. It is an impression long to be remembered and cherished.
