Top 5 Things To Do In Lake Louise

Things to do in Lake Louise are numerous and varied.  And, breathtaking.  The area is called the ‘Jewel of the Rockies’ for good reason. Wherever one wanders, there is a towering peak, a glistening glacier or stunning body of water to gaze upon. Many scenes include all three natural features.

Take some time, either before or after your rafting trip with Wild Water Adventures, to indulge your senses with the splendours of Lake Louise.  You won’t be disappointed!

Here are 5 suggestions to make your time in Lake Louise that much better.

  1. CATCH THE SUNRISE (OR SUNSET)

Can you imagine a more gorgeous setting for a sunrise or sunset? Every day should begin with such a view!  Stroll the gentle lakeside pathway as the day’s first rays of sunshine shimmer off Victoria Glacier. Perch on a rock and gaze at the turquoise-coloured waters of Lake Louise.  It is simply mesmerizing. Never has a Rocky Mountain sunrise been more accessible, too!

  1. HIKE A TRAIL / GAIN SOME ELEVATION

Well maintained trails abound, both above and beyond the shores of Lake Louise.  A morning stroll leads slightly higher to pretty Lake Agnes and its accompanying Beehives, one ‘little’ and one ‘big’.  Trek even farther beyond Lake Louise to the Plain of 6 Glaciers, where you will see … six glaciers!  For any wilderness exploration, remember to pack along water, food, and clothing for all seasons; weather changes quickly in the Rockies.

  1. HAVE A CUP OF TEA

After spending time on the trail, relax and enjoy a piping hot cup of tea. If looking for indoor civility, Afternoon Tea is served at the Chateau Lake Louise. If looking for a more rustic and natural setting, then try the tea houses at Agnes Lake or Plain of Six Glaciers.  Both operate daily and offer spectacular views.  Just remember to bring cash!

  1. RIDE THE GONDOLA TO THE ALPINE

Keep an eye out for black bears and grizzly bears (oh my!) on the green, grassy slopes below.  From the top, gaze out across the wide-sweeping Bow Valley and spot, for instance, such peaks as Fairview, Temple and Victoria.  Better yet, enjoy our Up The Mountain Down The River package and explore both the river valley and mountain tops together.

  1. GRAB A BITE TO EAT IN THE VILLAGE

Personally, I like to start a day of hiking with a mouth-watering breakfast wrap and latte from the Trailhead Café.  Conveniently located in Samson Mall, down the hill from Lake Louise, the cafe offers a massive and mouth-watering menu, all on a ‘to-go’ basis.  Across the street is Javalanche Café (next to the Husky gas station) which also offers a fabulous menu. Both establishments are well-stocked with the human fuel needed for exploring the wonders of Lake Louise.
